Hill Country Lane

Hill Country Lane is a rendition of the quiet old roads that cross the miles of hills around Fredericksburg, Texas. There are many historic German stone houses back in these settlements and I often wonder if any of my father's ancestors are among the original settlers. The white Texas stone can be seen in the old buildings and banks downtown as well as in these old farmhouses. I love Fredericksburg at Christmas, and we always bring the pugs when we visit there to deliver art to The Good Art Company Gallery on Main Street. Here is a picture from a few holidays ago, of Howard and his big sis, Winnie Wiggles.

Sunflower Skyline is blooming on the easel in Flower Mound Studio this evening, with Christmas movies in the background and pugs snoring underfoot. In between flower painting I've been working on a commission of two young pug brothers who live in nearby Southlake, Texas. The best part about the two models is they gave the artist kisses!

I got some good news today - I was juried into the Artscape at the Dallas Arboretum March 20-21, 2009. I hope you will come by and see me, it's always a great day in the park and a great art show!

Red Poppy Panorama

With the wind chill in the 20s outdoors, the time seemed right to fill the studio with some warm red poppies. It's been a busy week of art in Flower Mound Studio. I finished the sketches for a new commission of two energetic black pugs and a large four-foot container garden was packaged for its trip to Art and Frames by Wood Gallery in Coronado, CA.

Saturday Anniebelly Bossybritches will ride with me out to the farm in East Texas to reacquaint ourselves with the family and then we head back to Flower Mound with my 17 year old niece. I can't think of a better way to spend the holidays than with family. What are your holiday plans? Travel, painting, or just relaxing at home with a glass of cold egg nog?

New England Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas in Dallas, Texas. Last year we had 14 inches of snow in Flower Mound, a record for the area. I would be happy with just 6 inches if it sticks long enough to give us that beautiful blanket of white that makes the holiday magic. Wherever you are this winter, may your hot chocolate stay warm and your toes stay snuggley.

Lavender Iris

This little iris bloomed in the studio while I was working on a four-foot container garden painting for Art and Frames by Wood Gallery in Coronado, California. These small works make great studies when I am working through a problem or challenge on a larger painting. I finished the large work after three days of painting until midnight, and then a few more hours to make some small adjustments.

The most challenging thing about painting at this pace is taking those important breaks to stop and play with the studio assistants. Ball throwing in the sunshine and hunting for lost chew toys is just part of the job description for the artist in residence at Flower Mound Studio. It's a tough job, but somepuggy's mom has to do it!
